Sirja Nironen
SIRJA NIRONEN is a Finnish cellist. She has studied with Hannu Kiiski, Arto Noras, Frans Helmerson and Martti Rousi at the Sibelius Academy, Hochschule für Musik Hamburg and Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. In 2017 she won the “Grand Prize Virtuoso Rome” competition, and in 2018 3rd Prize and a recording prize in the Turku Cello Competition. Sirja has played as a soloist with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, Hamburger Symphoniker and OIDA Arezzo among others.
She has premiered compositions by Peter Häublein, Matilda Seppälä, Elisar Riddelin and Sauli Zinovjev. In May 2019, Sirja recorded pieces by Tchaikovsky, Scriabin and Shostakovich for the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE. She plays a 1903 Albert Jacquot cello on kind loan from the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
